HIGH RADON CONCENTRATIONS DETECTED IN CASTLEGAR HOME

Date Published: 07-Oct-2011
Extremely high concentrations of radon gas have been detected in a house in the Castlegar area.
According to the Radiological Institute of Ireland, a test carried out in summer found the home had over 18 times the acceptable level of radon.
This would have resulted in the occupants receiving radiation doses equivalent to 12 chest X-rays per day.
Galway has the second highest incident rate of radon levels in the country.
