Minister for Health, Mary Harney, has ruled out any extra funding for Galway's hospitals.Speaking at a meeting of the Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children, Mary Harney insisted that University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park Hospital would have to work within their allocated budgets.Yesterday it emerged that a leaked document circulated among staff at UHG raised concerns about the hospitals future as a centre of excellence for cancer care. However the HSE West responded by saying that cost cutting measures planned for Galway hospitals had not yet been agreed and that there are no plans to curtail cancer services.
