Behind the scenes efforts are taking place to provide off-street parking in Headford – a couple of months after councillors were informed by officials that there was no money available.

At least two potential sites in the town are being investigated as possible locations for around 60 car parking spaces, which could then see on-street parking banned.

Cllr Andrew Reddington said that he understands that progress is being made and that possible sites are being looked at.

“We are not taking no for an answer,” he told The Connacht Tribune following a meeting of Tuam Municipal Council at which the matter arose and, again, funding constraints were mentioned.

But both he and Cllr Mary Hoade (FF) are determined that off-street parking will be provided in Headford – otherwise, they believe the town will ‘die on its feet’.

Cllr Hoade emphasised at a meeting of Tuam Municipal Council of the need for parking in Headford and it was an issue that would not go away –despite officials telling her to contrary.

And Fine Gael’s Cllr Reddington believes that alternative options have to be investigated by Galway County Council officials as, otherwise, he believes that it could be a death knell for the town.

Damien Mitchell, Senior Executive Engineer told a previous meeting that the Council wasn’t in a position to provide off-street parking and he too was disappointed that the lands for this purpose hadn’t materialised.
