The Galway Harbour Company says redevelopment of the harbour is key to combatting the fall in revenue experienced last year.

This comes as the companies annual accounts for 2011 reveal a decrese of 8 per cent in revenue to 3.5 million and drop of 18 per cent in throughput.

Commercial bussiness at the company was low last year with over 50 per cent of the profit made from car parking and rental income, rather than port business.

Overall a profit of 823 thousand euro was recorded for 2011, a 25 per cent increase on last year.

CEO Eamon Bradshaw says the company cannot compete with larger ports of Dublin and Cork.
