A judge has amended the bail conditions of a man facing 12 charges of harassment, permitting him limited return to the College Road area of the city.

Jerard Nestor (61), with an address at 57 Dún Na Mara, Renmore, appeared at Galway District Court on 12 charges of harassment, contrary to section 10 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.

It is alleged Nestor committed the offences at College Road on dates between January 2022 and February 2025.

The court was told the charges concerned five alleged victims, four of whom lived on College Road while one victim had a business premises beside a property owned by the accused.

Nestor was granted bail at his first court appearance last year on a number of conditions, including not having any contact with potential witnesses and staying away from their residences.

Defence barrister, Noah Rossiter BL, told the court his client was applying to amend the bail conditions as he was a landlord of a property on College Road and needed to go there to collect rent and do maintenance.

The State objected to the amendment and Garda Kenneth Boyle told the court the bail conditions were "reasonable and proportionate" and aimed at ensuring there was no interference with witnesses.

Garda Boyle said it would be alleged Jerrard Nestor video-recorded the alleged injured parties and interfered with customers of the business.

Judge Adrian Harris said the court was minded to allow the accused attend the property and amended bail to allow Nestor attend on February 24 and March 10.

The Director of Public Prosecutions has directed trial at Galway Circuit Court.
