A Green Party city councillor has admitted he has misgivings about the Government's new 200 euro workplace parking levy. Cllr Niall O'Brolchain accepted it was a Green party tax that will be introduced in Galway as well as Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Waterford. The levy will apply to all public and private sector workers but there will be concessions for part-time workers, shift workers and drivers with disabilities. Employees who share car parking spaces will be levied at a reduced rate. The new levy will be collected by employers through payroll deductions. Cllr O'Brolcháin says the Government should be providing better public transport options for Galway before introducing such a levy
