Grave of Galway man who died unexpectedly destroyed after 24 hours

The young man’s headstone had only been erected one day when it was tore down
The grave of a Galway man who died unexpectedly last year has been destroyed just 24 hours after his headstone was erected and blessed.
Family and friends have been left outraged and upset after cruel vandals tore down Richard Donohue's grave in Ballymore Cemetery after they had waited over a year to see his headstone being put up.
Richard passed away unexpectedly, at his residence, on Monday, 28th July 2025.
One person close to Richard said: “Rest in heavenly peace Richard. Your grieving family and kids have been through enough over the last 13 months.
“Now waking up to the news of your headstone being destroyed on the day of its blessing. Richard’s father and mother came in to me for a visit during the week and were glad to see the headstone finally being put up as they are still grieving the loss of their son. Keep Richard’s family in your prayers.
Another friend added: “The headstone wasn’t even up 24 hours. Whoever did this will have been caught on the cameras and will have to deal with the consequences.”
Richard is deeply mourned and sadly missed by his loving father Eddie, mother Bridget, sons Neddy, John and Bernie, brothers Tommy, John, Martin, Eddie, Shane, Kevin and Francis, nephews, nieces, relatives, extended family, neighbours and his many friends.
