GOVERNMENT INSPECTORS COMPLETE TOUR OF EAST GALWAY BOGS

Date Published: 03-Nov-2011
A report on three raised bogs in East Galway will be presented to Government following an inspection related to the turf cutting ban.
This afternoon, officials from the Department of Heritage inspected raised boglands in Ardraigue in Killimor, Barroughter and Clonmoylan.
Department Secretary General Joe Hamill was also present for the three hour long tour.
The visit was organised after last month's meeting between the local bogs action group and the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Jimmy Deenihan.
Spokesperson for the bog action group Dermot Moran says they are hoping an 'amicable' solution to the turf cutting ban can now be reached.
