GOVERNMENT CONSIDERS REOPENING COUNTY PLANNING PROBE

Date Published: 26-Mar-2012
The Government is to consider re-opening investigations into alleged planning irregularities at six local authorities including Galway county council.
The planning probes were set up by John Gormley but shut down by Environment Minister Phil Hogan last June.
He called the process inappropriate, and said he would focus instead on internal reviews.
The investigations focused on allegations of planning irregularities in Dublin and Cork city councils, as well as county councils in Galway, Meath, Cork and Carlow.
According to today's Irish Independent, Transport Minister Leo Varadkar says the re-opening of all six investigations will 'have to be considered'.
