Date Published: 15-May-2009
A man involved in a gun siege in Gort has given evidence that he had no intention of endangering life, even though the safety catch was turned to the “off” position on his shotgun seconds before he pointed it in the direction of armed Gardai standing nearby.42 year Anthony Burke, of 67 Crowe Street, Gort, yesterday gave evidence on day seven of his trial at Galway Circuit Criminal Court. He said he had contemplated suicide at one point during the siege when he gave his bank account details to his brother Buddy at around 2.30 a.m. and had asked him to look after his baby daughter. The trial is expected to end today.
