GMIT Students Union President, Joe O' Connor says student representatives will continue their efforts to persuade the Government to honour pre-election pledges on fees.

Mr. O' Connor was one of four student leaders who occupied a room at the Department of social protection yesterday for two hours

Gardaí arrested Joe O' Connor and three others, the USI President, the UCC President and the IT Carlow President at the scene at around 6.30 last evening for public order offences

They were taken to Store Street Garda station, and released shortly after their names and details were taken.

It's understood the demonstration was peaceful and a spokesperson for the Garda Press Office has confirmed a file will now be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Speaking to Galway Bay fm news this morning, Joe O' Connor says the Government needs to be upfront about proposed fees.
