Gilmore dents Rangers chances

ALTHOUGH just three games were played in the Western Hygiene Supplies Premier League over the weekend, the outcome of all the contests could have a major bearing on those chasing both the title and trying to avoid relegation.Firstly the defeat of leaders Athenry by Dynamo Blues has certainly given the chasing pack some hope, but not everybody took advantage.Corrib Rangers with games in hand were ideally placed to gain from that setback, but a late Mikey Gilmore goal boosted Salthill Devon’s chances as they came out on top in this battle of the contenders at Drom.At South Park, West Utd were odds on to see off a very understrength Renmore, but by the finish had to depend on a late equaliser in order to grab a share of the spoils.West’s loss of two points have severely dented their title prospects, while the point gained by relegation threatened Renmore could prove vital in the closing weeks of the season. The biggest winners of this whole debacle were Hibernians as they enjoy three games in hand, but trail Athenry by seven points.Meanwhile in the two Connacht Junior Cup games down for decision there were comfortable wins for Hibernians and Mervue Utd over Partry and Kiltimagh/Knock.Forr full match reports see this week's Sentinel
