GARDAI WARN OF FAKE FIFTY EURO NOTES IN BALLINASLOE

Date Published: 30-Sep-2012
TRADERS and members of the public have been stung by a number of fake 50 Euro notes in circulation in Ballinasloe this weekend as the annual fair is getting underway.
Superintendent Gerry Roche of Ballinasloe Gardai says people should watch out for the counterfeit 50 Euro notes which have a higher orange colour tint and are on slightly poorer quality paper.
The Superintendent also says that the dud notes do not have a watermark and the centre line is also less visible.
A number of the notes were used yesterday and the Gardai are asking the public and business people to be vigilant and if they detect anyone trying to pass off the fake 50 Euro notes to contact them.
Meanwhile Ballinasloe Gardai had to deal with a number of public order offences in the town last night, on the eve of the official opening of the town's annual great fair, and several arrests were made.
