An Garda Síochána has defended its provision of an escort for a controversial charity event which took place in Galway today.

A number of complaints were made after a bus reversed from Eyre Square to Casla in Connemara under Garda escort.

It's to raise funds for the Children to Lapland appeal.

It will make the trip back to Eyre Square - once again in reverse - tomorrow morning.

A number of complaints were made to Galway Bay FM by members of the public who are angry that this event was allowed to go ahead.

They're frustrated with the traffic delays caused and the potential dangers of such an event in poor driving conditions.
