GARDAI COMPLETE INQUIRY INTO EUROPEAN NORTH WEST ELECTION MISHAP

Date Published: 03-Jan-2012
No further inquiry will be carried out into the alleged misplacing of 3 thousand votes in the 2009 European elections in the North West constituency.
Independent candidate Fiachra Ó Luain says there is still no satisfactory explanation as to why 3 thousand of his first preference votes ended up in Libertas candidate, Declan Ganley's bundle.
The discovery was made at the count centre in Castlebar in June 2009, when Declan Ganley asked for a recheck.
According to today's Irish Times, the Garda Ombudsman Commission investigation into the matter has been closed.
