Gardai advise caution on Galway roads during tourist season
In the first 6 months of this year, nine people died on Galway roads while eight people suffered serious injuries in collisions.
Meanwhile, 224 people were arrested for driving while intoxicated in the 7 Garda districts of Galway, Salthill, Clifden, Tuam, Ballinasloe, Loughrea and Gort.
67 people were arrested for dangerous driving.
However, speeding remains the biggest problem on our roads with 6 thousand people in Galway caught exceeding the limit - an average of 1 thousand motorists a month.
Regional traffic Superintendent Martin Cashen says 'speed limits are not a target'.
