An investigation is underway into bogus charity calls in the Oranmore and Galway area.

It follows a number of cold calls in the Oranmore area last week where residents were asked to purchase a ticket for a major prize draw in aid of the Brothers of Charity.

A payment plan for the 100 euro tickets was also offered by the bogus callers on an installment basis by direct debit.

An investigation has now been launched and any suspicious calls should be reported to Mill Street garda station on 091 53 8000.

Ann Geraghty, Acting Chief Executive of the Brothers of Charity says the cold calls are a scam and residents must be on guard
