Garda Superintendent Marie Skehill has issued an appeal for the public's assistance in locating two men who entered the water in the city in the past week.

Search teams have been looking for a 19 year old man for six days now after he was seen entering the water at O'Brien's bridge last weekend [Jan 8].

Another man, aged 47, was spotted in the water in the Long Walk area near Spanish Arch at about seven o' clock last evening [Jan 12].

The Navy is to join the search operation for the two men today using specialised sonar equipment which can detect objects deep in the seabed.

The Garda helicopter, Coast Guard and sub aqua units from Galway and Cork will also continue the coastal search today from Silverstrand to Oranmore.

A team of 60 volunteers are also continuing a shoreline search from Mutton Island in the city to Tawin Island near Kinvara.
