A Politics lecturer is urging the people of Galway to support an emergency petition against the cuts to the minimum wage.

Dr Mary Murphy will echo the call by the 'Claiming Our Future' movement, when she speaks at a gender equality seminar at NUI Galway tonight.

The group launched the emergency petition yesterday to try to stop the Government rushing through the 11 per cent cut to the minimum wage without a Dáil debate.

The seminar on gender equality will take place in NUIG at 7 o'clock tonight and other speakers include former Government minister Gemma Hussey.
