GALWAY TOURISM TO BENEFIT FROM LONDON OLYMPICS SPIN-OFF

There's been a surge in the number of online searches by UK travellers considering a trip to Galway.

Figures compiled by online hotels booking website, Hotels.com show a 194 percent surge of interest in Galway ahead of the London Olympics.

The findings indicate that many UK residents are planning a break away in Ireland during the Olympic fortnight.

Galway has seen a huge increase in searches on this time last year with other counties around the country also seeing a notable increase.

Kate Hopscroft of hotels.com says that Galway is proving a popular alternative for those who wish to escape from London's Olympic fever.
