GALWAY TDS VOW TO PROTECT SERVICES AT PORTIUNCULA HOSPITAL

Galway TDs have vowed to protect services at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.

It follows a meeting in the Dail this afternoon with trade unions who fear for the status of the Ballinasloe facility following last week's announcement that it's to be grouped with others in the region.

Trade unions have called for reassurances that all existing services will be retained and that the budget will reflect the status of the hospital.

The group has vowed to meet with unions once again in mid January after the issue is discussed with the Health Minister.
