GALWAY TDS GIVE UP MINISTERIAL PENSIONS

Galway West T.Ds and former Ministers, Frank Fahey and Michael D Higgins and Galway East T.D Paul Connaughton have all announced that they will voluntarily forgo their ministerial pensions.

Deputy Fahey says he made the decision because of the current state of the public finances.

Deputy Connaughton says his party will introduce legislation in the Dail next week aiming to immediately stop the payments.

The Galway East T.D is hoping he can donate his pension to charity and is writing to the Minister of Finance to seek clarification on the matter.

Galway East Fianna Fáil T.Ds, Micheál Kitt and Noel Treacy were unavailable for comment this evening.
