GALWAY TD URGES COMMUNITIES TO PREPARE FOR GATHERING

A Galway TD is urging towns and villages across the county to set a date for 'the gathering' in their community next year.

Fine Gael Deputy Paul Connaughton says firms across Galway have a lot to gain from the tourism initiative.

The Government has announced a two million euro fund for 'The Gathering' projects around the country next year.

Half the money's being provided by I-P-B insurance - with the remainder coming from the department of transport, tourism and sport.

The fund will be administered by local authorities and fund three flagship events in every county and up to 700 more community events all around the country.
