Galway TD slams closure of social welfare offices

Galway Bay fm news - An Independent Galway T.D says the decision to close rural social welfare clinics around the country will have a negative impact on welfare recipients in rural Galway.

The plans, which will see clinics closing Carraroe, Spiddal, Moycullen, Oranmore, Mervue, Headford, Athenry and Turloughmore, will force many of those with social welfare engagements to travel to the city.Deputy Noel Grealish says this journey will cause undue hardship on rural welfare recipients, some of whom may not have transportation.Speaking on Galway Talks, Deputy Grealish said he feels that the local community welfare officers were doing the same job that a centralised office would.
