GALWAY TD SCEPTICAL OF WHITE HOUSE STATEMENT ON ILLEGAL IRISH

A Galway Dail Deputy is throwing doubt on the latest statement from the White House on the undocumented Irish in the States.The US consul for Northern Ireland Dean Pittman has said President Bush is committed to dealing with the issue of illegal Irish immigrants in America and wants to resolve the issue. The failure of recent legislation which would have allowed illegal immigrants who had left the US to return, means many Irish are afraid to visit home. Deputy Paul Connaughton says that he's doubtful the latest statement from George Bush will produce immediate results
