GALWAY TD CALLS FOR EXEMPTIONS FROM WATER METERING PLAN

Date Published: 21-Apr-2012
Galway households should be given the chance to install water meters themselves instead of paying the 40 euro fee annually for 20 years.
That's according to Galway East TD Michael Kitt who says homeowners should be given some exemptions should they wish to install approved water meters privately.
He says many group schemes in Galway already have such meters installed and as such, should be free from any charges.
It comes as the Department of the Environment says around 300 thousand homes will have to go without a water meter - during the inital phase of the scheme.
These houses and apartments will have to pay a flat rate charge instead - because of logistical difficulties in installing a meter.
