Galway Taxi drivers are struggling to make ends meet because of the sheer volume of taxi licenses being issued.Prior to the deregulation process in 2000, there were 146 taxis across Galway, this year there are over 11 thousand .At a special meeting of the transport oireachtas committee in Government buildings this week, taxi representatives from Galway voiced their concerns at the current crisis. They say there is simply not enough work for all these taxis in Galway, and they face serious consequences as a direct result. It's hoped that a proposal by Galway Fianna Fail TD Frank Fahy to put a ban on the further licensing of taxi licensing for three years, will be passed by Government in the coming months.
