Headford country music girl Mariah Butler is fast emerging as one of the favourites on the Voice of Ireland contest after she scored the highest points from judges on the third series of the hit show.

Mariah’s gutsy rendition of ‘Crazy’ by Aerosmith bowled over the judges on Sunday night.

The waitress revealed it was her mentor, Cranberries frontwoman Dolores O’Riordan, who picked the song and she was not quite sure how she was going to put her own spin on it.

But first off the blocks in dispelling any doubts she had was Westlifer Kian Egan who described Mariah’s performance as absolutely incredible.

“You to me are someone who would genuinely make it. You took that song and make it authentic. You could go to Nashville in the morning and get a record deal,” he exclaimed, scoring her nine points.

UK popster Jamelia labelled her fantastic. “When I’m watching you performing on stage I’m imagining you next to Carrie Underwood and holding you own.” She too scored her nine.

Musician Bressie was almost, though not quite as impressed. “You’re one of those singers that annoys everyone. You’re not going to slip up, I know that.” He gave her eight points.

Dolores said she could see the budding star opening up for Garth Brooks. “Your voice blows my head off completely”.

With her 26 points – the highest score so far in this series – Mariah went straight into the quarter finals of the show.
