A Galway solicitor has been appointed as a District Court Judge.

Olivia Traynor, from Ballybane in Galway City and living in Moycullen, was one of eight people recently nominated by Government to become judges.

A graduate of University College Cork, Ms Traynor qualified as a solicitor in 2002.

Popular among her legal colleagues, she was a very capable solicitor who specialised in criminal law in District No. 7, which included at Galway Courthouse and Doire an Fhéich in Conamara.

Earlier in April, the Government confirmed it had taken the necessary steps to advise President Catherine Connolly of the nominations, which follows a process conducted by the Judicial Appointments Commission.

In July of last year, Valerie Corcoran – a colleague of Ms Traynor – was nominated as a District Court judge after 25 years practising as a solicitor in Galway.
