A Galway Senator is calling on other Senators opposed to the budget cuts to follow the lead of Deputy Colm Keaveney.

Sinn Fein's Trevor O' Clochartaigh says some senators have spoken out against the cuts to respite grants, childrens allowance and the property tax.

He now wants them to follow their words up with actions and is also hoping Colm Keaveney's Labour counterparts in the Seanad will also vote against the budget.

There are five Galway Senators - Fine Gael's Fidelma Healy Eames and Michael Mullins, Independent Ronan Mullen, Sinn Feins Trevor O' Clochartaigh and Labour's Lorraine Higgins.

The chairman of the labour party lost the Government and party whip yesterday after voting against the Government, during a debate on the Social Welfare Bill.

Speaking to Galway Bay FM news, Senator Trevor O' Clochartaigh now wants others to follow the lead of Colm Keaveney.
