GALWAY SENATOR WANTS DEBATE OVER SCHOOL CUTS

A Galway Senator is calling for a debate with the Education Minister Ruairi Quinn over impending cuts to disadvantaged schools in rural communities.
This week, the Government reversed many of the cuts to urban DEIS schools, but not rural DEIS schools.
The u-turn means schools falling within DEIS Bands 1 and 2 will now NOT lose any teachers.
However,192 posts will be lost from primary schools outside DEIS ‘Band 1’ and ‘2’ and from DEIS second level schools.
Speaking in the Seanad, Senator O' Clochartaigh said the Education Minister 'didn't understand' the implications of the cuts
