Galway senator calls for long term solutions to storm damage
Galway bay fm newsroom - A Galway senator is calling on the Government to establish a dedicated body to deal with flooding and storm damage.
Speaking in the Seanad, Senator Hildegarde Naughton said it's important to 'futureproof' our coasts and waterways- in particular along the Wild Atlantic Way.
Over 20 million euro worth of damage was caused across the county during a series of storms in early Janurary.
Senator Naughton said the government responds to flooding and storm damage in an adhoc manner, and with climate change becoming more obvious, this approach will no longer work.
She's called on the goverment to establish a body of experts to draw up a long-term programme for flood defence
