Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), the Irish Sea Fisheries Board has announced that The Seafood Centre @ Galway Bay Seafoods have won the inaugural BIM Seafood Circle ‘Seafood Specialist of the Year, 2010’.

This new and prestigious award is only presented to seafood retailers that exceed the stringent high standards set by the Seafood Circle, an initiative developed by BIM which recognises and supports retailers and hospitality outlets that consistently offer top quality seafood to their customers.

Owned and managed by brothers Noel and John Holland, Galway Bay Seafoods Ltd at New Docks employs twenty eight people and is a fully integrated seafood retail, wholesale and processing business. The business received the award for their retail fish shop.

The Seafood Centre was established in 2007 and Noel explains how this recognition gives them a boost for the year ahead. ‘We are over the moon to receive this award. It is a great start to the year and we intend on using this award and our membership of the Seafood Circle to promote our business further and to continue to listen to our customers to meet their changing needs.

“Our father John started the family business in 1950 and we are proud of our heritage in Galway city and how we have expanded and moved with the times over the years. Our customers are central to our business and, in a bustling modern city like Galway, we offer customers a wide variety of quality seafood at a great price and excellent customer service. We are looking forward to what will hopefully be a busy 2010.”

Bord Iascaigh Mhara recently announced their full list of Seafood Circle members for 2010 across the hospitality and retail categories. The total membership now stands at 175 members nationwide, with 98 hospitality, 41 Seafood Specialists and 36 Supermarket Seafood Counter members demonstrating that standards continue to rise every year. Donal Buckley,

Business Development and Innovation Manager with BIM explains how the Seafood Circle paid tribute to Noel and John Holland and all their staff.

“They have worked extremely hard to develop all areas of their business and they truly deserve this award for their Seafood Centre. Their dedication to quality and excellent customer service is core to the Seafood Circle initiative.

“We would encourage consumers to look for the Seafood Circle mark when shopping or eating out and in doing so continue to support these important local businesses.”
