Two major Galway road projects are to benefit from the government's two and a quarter billion euro stimulus plan.

The plan which has officially been announced this afternoon is expected to create 13-thousand new jobs nationally, with the bulk of the money going to transport and education.

In Galway, the Gort to Tuam motorway has been given the go-ahead which consists of a 57 kilometre route providing bypasses of Clarinbridge, Claregalway and Tuam.

The N6 Galway City Bypass has also been included in the plan as a future key priority transport objective.

The 12 kilometre orbital route is currently pending the outcome of legal proceedings and depending on the outcome will be progressed as an additional PPP project.

There'll also be investment in building 20 health centres, these include primary care centres in Gort and Tuam.

Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin says the plan will create thousands of new construction jobs locally.
