Two people were killed in workplace accidents in Galway last year.

That's according to new figures released by the Health and Safety Authority which show that the Agriculture sector recorded the highest number of deaths nationally for the third year in succession.

The first Galway death took place in May and involved the Waste Management sector where a total of three such fatalities were recorded around the country.

The deceased received crush injuries while carrying out Maintenance work to a refuse truck at an industrial site.

The second Galway death involved the Transportation and Storage sector and took place in July aboard a vessel.

The deceased, an engineer, was standing at the wheelhouse of a ferry when the person fell down the stairs to the bottom floor.
