GALWAY ORGANISERS SAY FUTURE VOLVO BID "UNLIKELY"

Date Published: 14-Aug-2012
The organisers of "Let's Do It Global" say an application by the group for a bid to secure another Galway Volvo stopover now appears "unlikely".
This year's finale saw over 900 thousand visits by spectators and tourists to the Race Village and Global Village during the 9 day festival.
Bids must be submitted by next month [Sept] from all countries wishing to be a host port for the 2014/2015 race.
However Let's Do It organisers says the current not-for-profit funding structure is not right and that the system needs to change through initiatives such as government partnerships.
Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, Micheline McNamara, MD of Let's Do It Global, says no time has been pledged into putting an application together for the bid and it now looks unlikely given the current structure.
