GALWAY MINISTER ASKED TO INTERVENE IN EDUCATION CUTS

Date Published: 24-Mar-2012
Minister for training and skills and Galway East TD Ciaran Cannon is being asked to intervene in the ongoing dispute over the increase in the pupil teacher ratio.
It follows a major protest in Loughrea this afternoon where up to 500 men, women and children demonstrated against the Government cutback.
Following speeches by INTO representatives, protestors marched from the railway road, up main street and onto Barracks street.
Ciaran Cannon met with the demonstrators at his constituency office where they handed in thousands of petititions against the cuts.
Six schools in Galway East, and two schools in Galway West are under threat of losing teachers following the Governments decision to increase the pupil teacher ratio as part of cost saving measures.
