GALWAY MAYOR HITS OUT AT PROPOSED ALCOHOL SPONSORSHIP BAN

Date Published: 10-Aug-2010
The Mayor of Galway is calling on the Health Minister to postpone any ban on alcohol sponsorship of sporting events until the recession is over.
Mayor Michael Crowe is claiming a recent report on alcohol sponsorship published by the Department of Health and Children makes it clear it's considering phasing out alcohol sponsorship of sporting events.
The Mayor says the Galway Races could lose key sponsorship from Diageo as a result and be forced to shorten the festival which is one of the biggest moneyspinners for the local economy.
