GALWAY LAGGING BEHIND EASTERN REGIONS IN ECONOMIC ACTIVITY

Date Published: 08-Jul-2009
Galway's economy is performing well in comparison to other regions in the West but is still lagging well behind Dublin and the Midlands in terms of economic activity and income earned. That's according to a new report launched today by Chief Economist for Friends First, Jim Power. The report entitled 'Look West" found an unequal distribution of wealth in the West in comparison to the East coast during the boom years. It identifies a number of areas that need to be addressed in Western counties to develop local economies including market access, broadband coverage and labour quality.Galway does however have a number of attractive advantages over its Western neighbours, according to Mr. Power including a thriving Tourism industry and a strong Educational offering.
