Voters on Inishboffin and the three Aran Islands go to the polls today for the Children's referendum two days ahead of the rest of the country

More than 2500 islanders off the coasts of Galway, Mayo and Donegal are eligible to cast their ballots.

The islanders go to the polls early to ensure bad weather won't delay the delivery of ballot boxes to the mainland for the count.

The counting process for this referendum gets underway at 9 on Sunday morning
