GALWAY HOUSEHOLDS URGED TO AVAIL OF REDUCED SEPTIC TANK FEE BEFORE DEADLINE

Date Published: 19-Sep-2012
Households across the county are being urged to register their septic tanks by Friday week [Sept 28th] in order to avail of a reduced fee.
Galway County Council is reminding homeowners who have a septic tank or waste-water treatment system that a five euro registration charge will be increased to 50 euro after September 28th.
The deadline for final registration is 1st February 2013.
To date, 3 thousand 407 county Galway households have registered and a further 88 in the city.
An additional 24 thousand 500 applications from households nationwide are at the bureau and have yet been processed.
Director of Services at Galway County Council Jim Cullen says the inspection programme won't commence until 2013.
Pádraic Ó Conghaile of local campaign group Glór na Tuaithe says people want fair play and a five euro lower fee is not enough to entice registration.
