GALWAY HOMEOWNERS FACE HIKE IN INSURANCE PREMIUMS

Householders in county Galway are facing a large hike in home insurance premiums this year.

A Sunday Times/Chill Insurance report has revealed that residents in the county will face an 18 per cent rise in home insurance.

City householders meanwhile are expected to pay the same premiums again this year, despite a national increase of 20 per cent on average.

The rise is being blamed on the severe weather events of 2009 and 2010.

It was revealed that the cheapest quote for cover with accidental damage in Galway city is €412, while the most expensive quote is €899, more than double and a difference of almost €500.
