GALWAY HALIFAX STAFF TO BALLOT FOR INDUSTRIAL ACTION

Members of the Unite trade union are to ballot on industrial action over Bank of Scotland Ireland's decision to close its Halifax branches here, including the Eyre Square branch.

750 jobs will be lost in the move, including 8 at the city branch.

The bank announced last Tuesday that it will close its branches by July.

Union members will start balloting tomorrow and a result is expected within a week.
