GALWAY FIRE CHIEF ISSUES WARNING ON HALLOWEEN BONFIRES

Date Published: 31-Oct-2012
Galway's Chief Fire Officer has called on local groups and communities across the city and county to act responsibly when organising bonfires tonight.
Last year, emergency services attended to 10 such call-outs in Galway, while crews are also on call for other priority incidents including road traffic collisions and serious fires.
Bonfire organisers are being urged to ensure fires are built at least 60 feet away from houses or sheds and that the use of petrol or paraffin to ignite material is avoided.
There is also a clamp-down against burning dangerous rubbish, such as foam-filled furniture, tyres and aerosol cans.
Chief Fire Officer Michael G Raftery told FYI Galway that safety must always come first and children must be supervised at all times.
