GALWAY FARMERS VOTE FOR GOVERNMENT SUPPORT SCHEME

Date Published: 11-Apr-2012
Galway farmers have voted unanimously for the government to extend the Agri-Environment Options Scheme, or A-E-OS 3.
They were among farmers from all over Connacht who met at a regional meeting of the Irish Farmers Assocation in Roscommon last night.
IFA President John Bryan said Galway farmers expressed anger at a lack of clarity from the Department of Agriculture with regard to various schemes on offer.
He said there are only weeks until the closing date for the Single Farm Payment scheme, and advises all farmers with land in disadvantaged designated areas to apply for the scheme.
My Bryan says all farms should qualify for support from environmental schemes, and not just those farms that are in designated areas.
