GALWAY EAST TD CALLS FOR CLARITY ON ADMISSIONS TO TOGHERMORE RESIDENTIAL FACILITY

Galway East TD Paul Connaughton has called for clarity on when or if new admissions are to be accepted to Toghermore Residential facility in Tuam.

A decision was made last December to wind down Toghermore residential facility after a report revealed fire safety shortfalls.

In January, funding was sanctioned to address immediate fire safety issues at the 18 bed facility which has enabled the existing residents to stay there.

Speaking during a topical issues debate in the Dail this week, Deputy Connaughton asked when the required works will be complete and when new admissions will be considered.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Health, Junior Minister Sean Sherlock said a review is ongoing which will assist in determining the future of such residential facilities in the Galway/Roscommon region.
