Galway Eason staff to face pay cuts
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Staff at Eason Galway could face two years of pay cuts. According to today's Irish Independent, the Labour Court has recommended that 800 staff at the newsagent and bookseller accept the pay cuts of between 4 and 10 percent. Eason has stores at Shop street in the city, Galway Shopping Centre and a franchise in Tuam. Workers had rejected the plan for cuts when it was initially recommended by the Labour Relations Commission in April. However, Eason says the cuts must be implemented to ensure the survival of the business. The Labour Court ruled in favour of the pay cuts, but believes current rates of pay should be restored in April 2016.
