Galway councillor urges government to reassess criteria for flood relief
Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Galway County Councillor is urging the government to reassess its criteria for flood relief funding. Councillor Joe Byrne says essential flood relief works in Kiltiernan and Ballinderreen cannot progress, as the works have failed to meet cost benefit requirements. He's described the cost benefit requirements as impractical, saying it's difficult to put a value on peoples' livelihoods. Phase one of the proposed works involves flood relief from the outfall at Brandy Harbour to the Kinvara-Kilcolgan road crossing at Ballindereen. A second phase covers the area from the crossing to Kiltiernan school. Councillor Byrne says if the problems are not sorted now, there'll be more flooding in the area this winter.
