Galway city’s social and affordable homes can prove the key to whole new life

The keys are being handed out this week to the 32 individuals and families who will be moving into the newly built apartments at Goirtín, Morrough, Renmore, on the east of Galway City.
The one- and two-bed apartments in Renmore will provide secure, affordable, long-term homes to 32 household from Galway City Council’s housing list. The homes are A-rated so they will be economical to run, as well as providing high levels of comfort to the residents.
They were delivered by Clúid, Ireland’s leading Approved Housing Body, in partnership with Galway City Council, the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, the Housing Finance Agency, Housing Agency and King Construction.
Clúid Chief Executive Officer Averil Power said they were delighted to welcome the new residents to Goirtín.
“This latest scheme brings to 758 the number of Clúid homes in Galway,” she said.
“Like all Clúid residents, the individuals and families who are beginning to move into the homes in Goirtín will benefit from Clúid’s maintenance, tenant support and community engagement services.
“We look forward to helping them put down roots and build their futures in a thriving new neighbourhood,” she added.

Elizabeth Fanning, Director of Services, Social Development Directorate at Galway City Council, described it as ‘a very positive step that will provide a further supply of social units in Galway City’.
“These 32 homes will help to meet the housing needs of the local community. Galway City Council is pleased to have partnered with Clúid, State Agency partners and K King Construction Claregalway Ltd on the delivery of these new homes,” she said.
This comes days after Fox Residential, in partnership with Galway City Council, announced the release of 29 new homes for sale at Radharc Na Tornóige, Headford Road, last week.
The houses were delivered under the Affordable Purchase arrangements of the Affordable Housing Act 2021 and associated regulations.
The new development will provide a mix of high-quality homes, offering a range of options for eligible purchasers.
The homes available include eight one-bedroom apartments on the ground floor; five two-bedroom apartments on the ground floor; ten two-bedroom duplex homes, and six three-bedroom duplex homes.
Applications for the homes will open at 12 noon on Monday, April 20, and will close at 12 noon on Monday, May 11. Interested applicants can register and apply through the online portal at www.GalwayCity.ie/Tornoige.
“This development at Radharc Na Tornóige represents an important opportunity for people to purchase a well-located home at an affordable price,” said Valerie Totman, Senior Staff Officer with Galway City Council.
