Schlingermann, Murphy and Warde also leave the club ahead of 2021 season

One of the mainstays of Galway United for the past seven seasons will not be playing with the club in 2021, with the move to full-time structures being given as the reason for his departure.
Marc Ludden is one of four players from the 2020 squad who were named by United last week as not returning to the club for the 2021 season.
The Dunmore native is joined on the list of departures by Cian Murphy, Micheal Schlingermann, and Sam Warde, and they join other players who have been previously named as non-returnees for 20201: Conor Barry, Joe Collins, Donal Higgins (UCD), Vinny Faherty (retired), Jack Lynch, Timo Partheons, and Josh Smith
In a statement released by the club, United wished all four players well, and thanked Ludden in particular for his service over the pasts even seasons.
“It’s well known that we’re moving to full time structures next season and that will not suit everyone. I’d like to place on record my thanks to the lads and wish them well,” Caulfield said.
Ludden joined United from Mervue United, where he began his League of Ireland career, when United returned to the national league for the 2014 season, and in all, he played 184 times for the club over those seven seasons.
He made his debut in United’s first game back in the league, a 1-0 defeat at home to Longford Town, and he went on to make 31 appearances that season, his second-biggest haul in single campaign.
The left-back picked up the first of what proved to be four red cards for United the following season, when he was sent off for picking up two yellow cards against shamrock Rovers – in fact, all four of his dismissals were for two yellow cards. His other early departures were against Finn Harps (2016), Sligo Rovers (2017), and Cabinteely (2020).
